Mid-City is now party-supply central with the grand opening Saturday (Oct. 23) of Party Stop on Canal Street, about a block from the esteemed costume-supply shop Broadway Bound.
It joins Plush Appeal/Mardi Gras Spot and specialty shops like NOLA Craft Culture as the city’s go-to stores for holiday inspiration and supplies. Mid-City residents never have far to go to fulfill their creative decorating and costuming needs.
The shop has been the dream of co-owner Brandi Bean-McField for a long time.
“The pandemic made me re-evaluate what I wanted to do,” she said. “You never know how life can change, and I wanted to go after what I really wanted. To go for the quality of life.”
Bean-McField gained her party experience with her father’s business. “They used to give an annual event for employees and customers, and I was the one organizing things,” she said. “Although I always loved the ‘party industry,’ I pursued my education and am trained as a pharmacist.”
But the pandemic changed that. She left her pharmacist job to pursue her dream of being a part of the party industry; she and her husband, Frank Bean-McField, took the step of getting a space and opening the Party Stop. They chose Canal near Broad because of its central location.
They offer yard signs, banners and labels. The store also customizes decorations with names, logos and even photographs.
In addition to decorations, they also stock premium tableware and large quantities of balloons. “We have bags of a hundred,” the owner said. And they sell piñatas.
For Halloween and, of course, Mardi Gras, Party Stop sells costumes. “It’s New Orleans,” said Bean-McField. “Of course we are going to have costumes.”
In the future, they intend to have a delivery service, especially for table rentals and the like. “Hopefully by the holidays,” she emphasized. This is a priority for the owners.
The opening on Saturday drew more than 100 customers. It featured live music of the Kinfolks Brass Band and a second-line through the spacious store.
The hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Curbside pickup is available.
