This year’s Mid-City Halloween House Tour performs a vanishing act

The Mid-City Neighborhood Organization in 2020 created the Halloween House Tour as a riff on its popular Porch Tour. The self-guided tour of neighborhood’s spookiest porch decorations was developed as a supernatural yet safe event in the age of Covid-19.

The event looked like it was set to become a Mid-City tradition, until Hurricane Ida came along. As hurricane recovery efforts continue, MCNO board members decided that Mid-City residents had enough to do and did not want to drain needed resources. So the 2021 Halloween House Tour is canceled (though Halloween porch decorations are still welcome).

The MCNO posted the following notice on its Facebook page.

Due to the impact of Hurricane Ida on Mid-City and our local communities, MCNO has made the difficult decision to cancel the Halloween Porch Tour for 2021. While we would love to take this opportunity to inject some spirit back into the neighborhood, we also want to be mindful of the active recovery, supply shortages, and debris clean-up still taking place. We look forward to hosting this event again in the future, and hope everyone is safe and well.
