On Saturday (July 17), NOPD officers surrounded and arrested Calvin Blanks, 31, in the Lafitte Greenway area.
The District Community Action Team was called to the 400 block of North Galvez Street, where a man holding a rifle was arguing with people in the area, the police report said.
The DCAT team is crime prevention unit that includes community members and NOPD officers.
After the man allegedly threw the firearm and fled from officers, police set up a perimeter and identified the suspect as Blanks.
Blanks is being held in the Orleans Justice Center on a $145,000 bond on multiple counts including robbery, possessing a firearm as a felon, flight from an officer, battery on a dating partner and child endangerment. Blanks also had multiple warrants out for his arrest on other charges.
Blanks remained jailed on Tuesday morning, Sheriff’s Office records show.
