Police blotter: Three purse snatchings reported during weekend

Three purse snatchings occurred in and around Mid-City neighborhoods over the weekend, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

On Saturday (May 22) at 3:36 p.m., a man grabbed a 48-year-old woman’s purse while she was sitting outside at a restaurant in the 3200 block of Esplanade Avenue.

The purse snatcher fled in a gray Kia Soul with a Saints license plate.

Another purse snatching happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday (May 23) in the 2400 block of Bell Street in Esplanade Ridge. 

A 29-year-old woman was sitting on a bench when a man stopped his car and approached asking for spare change. When she declined, he grabbed her purse and fled.

A similar incident occurred about an hour later in the 3600 block of Iberville Street in Mid-City. 

A 36-year-old woman was on a bench at about 1:30 p.m.  when a man drove up, got out of his car, snatched her purse and fled.

Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD First District station at 504-658-6010 to speak to a detective, or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
