Police blotter: Carjacking on Bienville, shooting on Tulane Avenue

A carjacking and a shooting were reported in Mid-City neighborhoods on Monday evening.

The carjacking occurred at about 5 p.m. in the 3900 block of Bienville Street, near Scott Street.

A 33-year-old woman was in a parking lot putting her child in the back seat of her vehicle. A man approached and demanded the woman and child get out of the car. The woman picked up the child and stepped away, and the carjacker fled in her car.

Police learned of the shooting after the victim showed up at in an emergency room with gunshot wounds Monday night, prompting an investigation into a shooting that was traced to the 4000 block of Tulane Avenue, near Carrollton Avenue.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the victim, a 22-year-old man, was with a friend in a parking lot at about 9:30 p.m. They walked up to a car they thought belonged to the victim’s friend.

The driver of the car rolled down the window and began shooting, hitting the 22-year-old, who was taken to the hospital. His condition was not disclosed.
