A shooting near Tulane Avenue and Jefferson Davis Parkway left one man dead early Monday afternoon, the New Orleans Police Department reported.
Police called to the 3100 block of Baudin Street at 12:23 p.m. found Herbert Johnson Jr., 56, inside a vehicle. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The Emergency Medical Service pronounced Johnson dead at the scene.
Further details were not immediately available.
The homicide followed an especially violent Fourth of July weekend in New Orleans and was the first of two shooting deaths on Monday (July 6) afternoon. Another man died at about 1:30 p.m. after he was hit by gunfire on Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East.
No further details were available on the Baudin Street homicide. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
