The Friends of Lafitte Greenway will host its third annual fundraising event, recently renamed the Greenway Soirée, on Nov. 6.
The Soirée will celebrate the progress of the development of the Greenway and as well as honor the team members that started the Greenway’s creation in 2006, according to Sophie Harris, the organization’s executive director.
The bands Smoking Time Jazz Club and DJ Pompeii will provide entertainment, and wine and specialty cocktails will come from Bizou Wines and Mystic Vine. Liberty’s Kitchen will offer New Belgium beer and specialty cuisine.
A silent auction will feature more than 30 local businesses and allow for opportunities to sponsor Where Ya’ Rack bike racks along the Greenway with personalized engravings.
Funds raised at the event will support the Friends of Lafitte Greenway’s work to ensure the Greenway develops into a safe, and active community space “through advocacy, planning, programming, and fundraising,” according to an event release.
Harris said the fundraiser in 2014 helped hire its first staff member.
“Today, our team of over 220 members, 290 volunteers, and three staff are busy planning community gardens, beautifying and cleaning the Greenway with volunteers, educating youth and drivers about trail safety, working with developers on Greenway-friendly design, leading bike repair workshops, and much more,” Harris said.
The event has sold-out for the past two years and is sponsored by IATSE Local 48, Mid-City Market, Whole Foods Market, and Councilwoman Susan Guidry.
The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure-Roy E. Glapion Reception Hall on North Broad Street.
A Patron Party will precede the soiree from 6 to 7 p.m.
