Morris Jeff Community School board of directors agreed to enter into a collective bargaining agreement with their teacher’s union by unanimous vote at last month’s board meeting.

The union, Morris Jeff Teacher’s Union, is represented by United Teachers of New Orleans for the purposes of collective bargaining.

About 80 percent of Morris Jeff faculty and staff presented the board with signed petitions in favor of switching from Morris Jeff Association of Educators to the United Teachers of New Orleans as the representative for a collective bargaining agreement.

According to an article by The Lens, board member Amanda Butler advised for the board to take quick action as the process moving forward will be costly and timely.

A time frame has not been announced as to how long the process will take.

The agreement is not set to be discussed on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. The agenda does state that the board will consider adding a new member, Amisha Sharma.

The board is also set to discuss testing results as end of the year standardized testing was earlier this month and give updates on the school’s playground construction.
