After a near collision in a parking lot on Canal Street over the weekend, one of the drivers threatened the other with a gun, New Orleans police said.

The altercation — currently classified as an aggravated assault — took place around 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 20, in a parking lot in the 2200 block of Canal (near North Galvez), according to crime maps.

One of the driver stopped her vehicle to tell the other that he had almost hit her, the other man pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and brandished it toward her, said NOPD First District Commander Otha Sandifer.

The investigation is continuing, Sandifer said, while detectives attempt to obtain surveillance video of the parking lot. At that point, Sandifer said, they hope to be able to release a description or images of the vehicle involved in the incident to the public.
