With heavy rain beginning to soak the Fairgrounds on Sunday morning and a forecasters issuing a tornado watch, the opening of Jazz Fest has been delayed until the afternoon, officials said.
On Sunday morning, forecasters with the National Weather Service issued flood advisory until 1:15 p.m., a tornado watch until 3 p.m. and a wind advisory until 7 p.m. for Orleans Parish.
Festival organizers gave little information as to when the music might begin in their social media post shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
“Jazz Fest opening is delayed until this afternoon,” according to a Tweet from the festival’s official Twitter account. “For updates, continue to follow us.”
