An occupied two-story home on North Dupre Street in Faubourg St. John caught fire overnight, but no one was hurt and several dogs were rescued, authorities said.
The fire at 915 North Dupre Street was first reported at 1:51 a.m. Friday, April 21, and firefighters arrived at the two-story wood-frame building six minutes later to find “heavy smoke and fire through the roof,” according to a New Orleans Fire Department report.
“The owner of the property said he arrived home and noticed light smoke coming from the upstairs apartment,” the report states. “As he investigated further, the smoke began to darken and he noticed the flames. The resident stated he rescued three dogs prior to NOFD arrival.”
After a search of the home, firefighters determined no one was home when the fire started, the report states. It took 44 NOFD employees and 13 vehicles to bring the fire under control shortly after 3 a.m., and the cause remains under investigation.
