We here at The Broad Theater believe that choice is essential. With four screens available, we want to make sure that every week you have the ability to choose the movie that suits your mood. With this week’s new selections, we offer you three films that are truly unique and independent.

COLOSSAL is a Kaiju (ed note: Japanese for “strange beast”) movie starring Anne Hathaway. We honestly thought we’d never write a sentence like that, but here we are.

It’s a film that has been getting great notices in the few cities that have had the opportunity to catch it, and this weekend it expands to New Orleans. All of us have been thinking what we would do if we suddenly controlled a giant monster halfway around the world, and the general consensus seems to be hosting a sweet dance party.

THE LOST CITY OF Z is journey not into the heart of darkness, but the heart of the Amazon river. Based on a true adventure, its the story of a man’s epic quest to discover an ancient civilization in a part of the world that we used to call “savage”. For lovers of Quixote and Ahab, we recommend this story to you.

FREE FIRE comes to us from our friends at A24 and is action fully distilled. Once a gun deal goes bad in a warehouse, two gangs are trapped together in a search for survival under a hailstorm of bullets. Mixing comedy and action in a beautiful cocktail, this is a movie that knows exactly what people want to see, and provides you with nothing else but the goods.

THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS stays for another week, but we do have to say goodbye to GET OUT, RAW, KEDI, and  T2: TRAINSPOTTING after this Thursday. We have plenty of tickets available for all of these films, so if you still haven’t caught them yet, now is your time.

DONNIE DARKO is one of those dorm room classics that got passed around from DVD rack to DVD rack back in the early days of this century. We feel as though it needs to be experienced on a big screen with a rocking sound system so we’ve joined many theaters around the US and UK in bringing this film back with a brand new restoration in honor of it’s 15th anniversary. We’re also playing the film on 4/19 & 4/20, so that you may experience the film in any way that you see fit. Tickets on sale now, no matter what time and space you currently occupy.

Our final $2 Tuesday for this month is THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8th DIMENSION. Words can not begin to describe this cross-genre cult classic starring Robocop himself, Peter Weller but suffice it to say that it is one heck of a ride. A lot of people have been asking us if we’re going to continue these screenings, and at this point all we can say is stay tuned…
