Friends of Lafitte Greenway are offering up a free and fun way to get fit this Spring.
Free bilingual Zumba classes will be held every Tuesday as part of Friends’ Get Fit the Green Way program, which works to improve opportunities for health and wellbeing for all New Orleans residents and Lafitte Greenway communities.
Classes take place every Tuesday through April 25th from 6-7pm on the field at Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte St.
Zumba is a choreography-based dance fitness workout inspired by Latin music and is appropriate for all ages, sizes and experience levels.
The classes are offered in partnership with the ReFresh Coalition, a collaborative group of health-, wellness-, and food access-focused organizations in the Mid-City, Treme, and Tulane-Gravier Neighborhoods. Last year, the ReFresh Coalition rolled out a host of programs aimed specifically at providing health opportunities for Latino residents through support from the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
Zumba was among the fitness opportunities that arose as a priority in focus groups held with Spanish-speaking Mid-City residents. The bilingual classes will run through Tuesday, April 25th. Another 6-week series will be held in the fall.
