The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a police canine that went missing Thursday.

At about midnight, the male canine – named “Spike” – was placed in his kennel by his partner officer at the officer’s residence. When the officer returned later that morning to feed the canine, the canine was not in his kennel. The dog had pulled a portion of the kennel apart, creating a small hole that allowed the canine to exit the kennel, police said.

Several members of the NOPD Canine unit continue to conduct searches in the area around the officer’s residence, but have not found Spike yet.

Spike is described as a tan and brown Malinois breed dog, with some black markings in his fur and a portion of his face is white. Spike also had a silver choke collar around his neck when last seen.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this canine are asked to immediately contact the NOPD Canine Unit at 504-658-6772.

  1. It sounds like Spike didn’t care for his living conditions. Perhaps he should be inside with his fellow officer and not left out in the elements. Very disappointing!!
