The annual Hike the Lafitte Greenway event has changed its starting point, though the rest of the route remains unchanged.
The family-friendly hiking event will begin at Lemann Playground, 628 N. Claiborne Ave., at 9:30 a.m. on March 25. The annual event ends with a block party at Second Line Brewing at noon.
The Hike will include a guided 3-mile walking tour featuring live entertainment by To Be Continued Brass Band, Washitaw Nation, the Congo Square Preservation Society Drummers, Secondhand Street Band, and more.
During this free, family-friendly celebration, participants will explore the history of transportation route, learn about the Greenway’s innovative stormwater management features, hear about the cultural histories of the neighborhoods along the route, and provide ideas for the Greenway’s future programming and improvements.
“The Greenway has seen extraordinary growth over the past year,” said Sophie Harris, Executive Director of Friends of Lafitte Greenway. “The 2017 Hike will highlight the Greenway’s newest additions and projects on the way—fitness parks, murals, and more. We will celebrate New Orleans’ history and culture with live music and and guided tours, and invite hikers to share their vision for the Greenway’s future.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register, visit lafittegreenway.org/hike2017.
