A homeowner on the 4000 block of Orleans Avenue has paved her entire front yard, contrary to a city rule which requires 40 percent of front yards to be unpaved, according to a report by Karen Gadbois at The Lens.

That house…awful. It was an insult in design and still requires them to rebuild the pieces that are rotting off. The yard was crushed limestone first, then this awful concrete. Arguing that it brightens the neighborhood is a complete load. The whole of it is pasted with No Parking/Tow Away Zone signs. Hell, that towing company, for a while, was actually operating out of that house!
Whatever. I hope the city forces her to break up that atrocity.
The law is on the books so the city should enforce it. A concrete lawn in our, or any, environment is a poor use of land. Also, let me take this further: the city should fine and require the removal of all illegal driveways. So many homeowners make curb cuts to install parking pads without getting approval. This is an insult to the neighbors and all citizens. If you purchased a home with no parking you cannot arbitrarily sculpt out a mini driveway at your whim. It is illegal! This practice, too, should be fined and the laws regarding such acts enforced.
An abomination. I truly hate when people do this crap. The city needs to crack down on this stuff. I’ve had 3 neighbors try it.
