A 25-year-old man was wounded in a Sunday afternoon shooting on South Cortez, and a 24-year-old man was shot less than an hour later about two blocks away on South Pierce, authorities said.

In the first case, the victim was in the 500 block of South Cortez around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when he was fired upon by two strangers, according to the initial police report. The victim was shot in both the chest and the stomach, and was later listed in stable but serious condition, the report states.

Around after 4:15 p.m. Sunday, the second man was shot in the 600 block of South Pierce, when three people wearing masks jumped out of a vehicle and began shooting at him, the report on that incident states. That victim was shot in the side and later listed in stable condition.

Whether the two shootings were connected or other details about the suspects were not immediately available. For a report from the crime scene, see the following video from our partners at WWL-TV:

One Response to “Two wounded in shootings on South Cortez, South Pierce”

  1. This is mostly wrong and I’m not sure why NOPD changed or got this wrong. The initial shots were on S Pierce, one was hit and one ran. They shot the one that ran on S Scott 1 block away. I’m not sure how the police got this wrong, but since I was there for the whole scene I’m gonna say something. My 911 call for the S Scott call is 3:18 and that happened moments after the S Pierce shooting.
